Hosts
Make sure to start off with prayer. Then choose one or more questions to open up with.
- If you had to choose to serve in any of the armed forces, which would you choose and why?
- When you have a bbq, what is your favorite side dish?
- If you could live your life in 5 different ways, how would you live them?
Message Review
Main points and scriptures from this week's message.
1 Corinthians 10:23 (NIV)
“I have the right to do anything,” but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything,” but not everything is constructive.
When you clarify your why, you clarify your life!
WHY SHOULD I HELP OUT?
If we really believe what we believe about Jesus, that he is God in the flesh who has radically saved us through his undeniable grace, then the only sensible response all of us would have is to find every opportunity to serve him and to serve others!
Galatians 5:13–14 (NLT)
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Mark 10:43 (NIV)
“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant . . .”
WHY SHOULD I TITHE?
Our tithing won’t get us to heaven, but it creates opportunities and atmospheres where people are introduced to Jesus and eternity and provides resources for the equipping of us for works of ministry
Malachi 3:8–11 (ESV)
Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts.
Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
WHY SHOULD I SHOW UP?
I realized a long time ago that church is not just about me, but I come each week to lift other people’s spirits up, help people find Jesus, I come with the mindset to encourage at least someone.
Hebrews 10:24–25 (ESV)
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another.
Message Discussion Questions
The following questions will help guide your discussions and give your group some opportunities to open up and share.
- Have you ever struggled with any of these "why" questions in your walk with God?
- Who do you talk through your questions with? Where do you seek wisdom on subjects you do not fully understand?
- Are you currently serving on a team? If yes, describe your experience. If no, share what is holding you back.
- When you think about what Jesus has done for us, what is your response? This could be emotional, physical, spiritual, or relational.
Live It Out
Encourage your group to start doing. Commit to a step, and live it out this week.
- Reach out to someone this week who has been on your heart. Send them a text or give them a call. Let them know that they matter.
