The most paralyzing thought you can think is I’m all alone in this, but what if we were to tell you that you're not?

Message Review

Main points and scriptures from this week's message.

Last week, we learned the three most important things to know about the Holy Spirit:

1. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS OUR HELPER.
2. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS OUR TEACHER.
3. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS OUR REMINDER.

This weekend we looked at some Bible references to Holy Spirit in hopes that we could give some insight.

IN THE OLD TESTAMENT, THE SPIRIT OF GOD WOULD COME AND GO IN THE LIVES OF GOD'S PEOPLE. IN THE NEW TESTAMENT, THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ALWAYS WITH US AND IN US.

John 14:16,17 (ESV)
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever . . . he dwells with you and will be in you.

Jesus was telling his disciples this, because soon he would be leaving them. But he wanted to make sure they knew that they would not be alone, because the Holy Spirit would be with them forever.

WALKING IN THE SPIRIT.

This is talking about an intentional daily walk with God. On this walk, we form new habits, meet new travel companions, and keep in step with the Holy Spirit in our lives.

BEING FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT.

This is a reference to the baptism of the Holy Spirit available to all believers.

Acts 1:4–5 (NIV)
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about For John baptized with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

BEING LED BY THE SPIRIT.

This is referring to the leadings of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Remember when you're meeting people and talking to people, the Holy Spirit is working to bring everyone towards Jesus!  When you encourage people forward in their relationship with Christ, you’re partnering with the Holy Spirit!

THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT.

We have all been gifted differently to work together in God's plan and for God's purpose. We actually help you to figure out what your gifts are in session 3 of Growth Track where you take a spiritual gifts assessment.

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT.

This is a reference to what the Holy Spirit will produce more of in our lives.

Galatians 5:22–23 (NIV)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Let’s be open and responsive to the Holy Spirit in our lives! He is here to produce good fruit in us! To help you be a better version of YOU!

TALK-IT-OUT

The following questions will help guide your discussions and give your group some opportunities to open up and share.

  1. Describe a time where you were struggling with something, and you felt like you were all alone.
  2. Does it change things for you knowing that the Holy Spirit is always with you?
  3. Can you recall a time when you first started feeling God's presence in your life?
  4. Have you ever felt like you were being led by the Holy Spirit to do something? How did you respond?
  5. What fruit of the Spirit are you most lacking? (love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control)

WRITE-It-Out

Encourage your group to start writing things down. In a journal or on paper, do the following exercises.

  1. At the top of the page, write down "Fruits of the Spirit." In individual rows, write each of the fruits of the Spirit and leave a space to the right of each one. Finally, next to each "Fruit of the Spirit" write down one thing that you did this week that exemplified that quality.
  2. At the top of a different page, write down "Fruits of my Flesh." In individual rows, write each of the fruits of the Spirit and leave a space to the right of each one. Finally, next to each "fruit of the Spirit," write down one thing that you did this week that DID NOT exemplify that quality.
  3. Write down a prayer asking God to help you with the Fruits of the Spirit you are lacking the most.

Live-It-Out

Encourage your group to start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  1. At the beginning of each day, pick one of the fruits of the Spirit and intentionally make sure you are exemplifying that quality throughout the day. Ask the Holy Spirit to help, teach, and remind you about this throughout your day.
  2. Complete Growth Track. Every Saturday in Tacoma 6:00pm, and every Sunday at all of our campuses. Bellevue 9:45am & Tacoma 11:30am.
  3. Serve together as a group. To view serving opportunities with Champions Foundation, click HERE
