Message Review

Main points and scriptures from this week's message.

2 Samuel 9:1–8 (NIV)
David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” Now there was a servant of Saul’s household named Ziba. They summoned him to appear before David, and the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?”

“At your service,” he replied.

The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?”

Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet.”

“Where is he?” the king asked.

Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.”

So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.

When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor.

David said, “Mephibosheth!”

“At your service,” he replied.

“Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”

Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?”

POINT 1: GOD IS LOOKING FOR YOU TO TAKE YOUR PLACE AT THE TABLE.

Maybe you didn’t know this but GOD, is actively, passionately, diligently, in pursuit of you. He wants nothing more than to have a relationship and spend time with you.

Luke 19:10 (NIV)
For the Son of Man has come to seek and save that which was lost.

POINT 2: YOU CAN’T GET TO THE TABLE BY YOURSELF.

In our story Mephibosheth was crippled he couldn’t walk. There was no way he could get to the table by himself. Someone had to help him to the table. You and I are spiritually crippled, and we need help getting to God. That is why God sent his son Jesus.

Romans 3:23–24 (NLT)
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

POINT 3: GOD’S GRACE GIVES US A SEAT AT THE TABLE. AND IT’S GOD’S GRACE THAT KEEPS YOU AT THE TABLE.

2 Samuel 9:13 (NIV)
And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; because he was lame in both feet.

You can go to the table where ever you are at in life and your walk with God

POINT 4: YOU HAVE A STANDING RESERVATION AT THE TABLE.

What does it look like to go to the table?

  1. Prayer and Listening to God.
  2. Reading your Bible. Talking about it.
  3. Get involved in community.
  4. Go through GROWTH TRACK

POINT 5: SOMETIMES WE DON’T COME TO THE TABLE BECAUSE WE ARE TRYING TO CHANGE EVERYTHING AROUND US WHEN GOD WANTS TO CHANGE EVERYTHING IN US.

Come to the table. There is a seat for you.

TALK-IT-OUT

The following questions will help guide your discussions and give your group some opportunities to open up and share.

  1. When did you first come to the table and invite Jesus into your heart? Describe that day.
  2. How do you think you are doing right now with coming to the table? Are you seeking God like he is seeking you?
  3. Who is in your world right now helping you get to the table? (mentors, accountability, friends, pastors, family, etc.)
  4. Pastor Jon listed out 4 things you can do to go to the table. What is your next step to go to the table?
  5. What do you think God wants to change in you right now? What are you feeling convicted to change?

WRITE-It-Out

Encourage your group to start writing things down. In a journal or on paper, do the following exercises.

  1. Pastor Jon read out loud what some of his friends had gone through since coming to the table and knowing Jesus. Write down one paragraph about what your life was like before Jesus and then write a paragraph about what it is like now.
  2. Finish this sentence on paper: God is convicting me to change ____________________.

Live-It-Out

Encourage your group to start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  1. Each day do one intentional act to live out the change you listed in the second Write-it-Out question.
  2. Complete Growth Track. Every Saturday in Tacoma 6:00pm, and every Sunday at all of our campuses. Bellevue 9:45am & Tacoma 11:30am.
