TALK-IT-OUT

Go through each main point and scripture from the message and use the corresponding questions in discussion with your group. Encourage your group to pull this post up on their own device to follow along.

Main Scripture: 1 Chronicles 12:16-18
Other Benjamites and some men from Judah also came to David in his stronghold. David went out to meet them and said to them, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, I am ready for you to join me. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies when my hands are free from violence, may the God of our ancestors see it and judge you.”

Then the Spirit came on Amasai, chief of the Thirty, and he said: “We are yours, David! We are with you, son of Jesse! Success, success to you, and success to those who help you, for your God will help you.”

So David received them and made them leaders of his raiding bands.

Talk-it-Out: Who do you have in your corner that you consider to be loyal to you?

Scripture Context: David, formerly a shepherd has defeated Goliath, successfully protected the borders of his nation, and dealt with persecution from his own King. Now he is named as the King of Israel, and is navigating rough relational waters. On one side he’s had to deal with haters, fakers, posers, and people who had their own agendas. On the other side, as David prioritized his purpose God brought allies, helper’s, encouragers, and warriors alongside him to support him.

Point 1: If you want to be around people who have purpose and passion, you must have purpose and passion.

Talk-it-Out: What relationships do you have that have purpose behind it?

Point 2: David didn’t give everyone access to his life.

Talk-it-Out: What criteria do you have when it comes to selecting the people you give access to?

POINT 3: Not everyone is in your life to help you.

Talk-it-Out: What kind of distractions from your purposeful relationships are you facing right now?

Point 4: Not all relationships are meant to be forever, some are for a reason, some are for a season, and some are for a lifetime.

Talk-it-Out: What relationships have you had that were only for a season? Was it hard for you to let that relationship go?

Talk-it-Out: What would you like to do to improve your relationship with God this week?
