HOSTS
Make sure to start off with prayer. Open up group with this icebreaker:
What fun things did you do last week in the sunny warm weather?
TALK-IT-OUT
Open YouVersion and read together: Matthew 25:14–30
Main points from this week's message:
Matthew 10:8 (NIV)
". . . Freely you have received freely give."
Main Point: Playing it safe is dangerous. If you’re protecting what you have, you can’t invest what you have.
Talk-it-Out: Pastor talked about the hedgehog and how you can either get close, get stabbed, and stay warm OR keep away, stay safe, and freeze. Have you been stabbed before? How has this kept you guarded, suspicious, and disconnected in relationships?
Hebrews 10:35 (NIV)
“So, do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.”
Main Point: Living by faith includes being vulnerable. Vulnerability is making moves when there’s no guaranteed outcome.
Talk-it-Out: Living by faith is not playing it safe. Being vulnerable is risky. Do you think being vulnerable makes people look weak? Was David weak? What about Peter?
Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Main Point: Courage is being aware of risk but not controlled by the fear of risk. Being afraid of risk causes us to miss out on the opportunities and rewards connected to a life that’s willing to take risk.
Talk-it-Out: What move do you know you need to make to become more vulnerable and take more risks, so you can live a life of faith and not fear?
WRITE-IT-OUT
Encourage your group to start writing things down. Do the following exercise:
How does this quote speak to you: “Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.”–Mark Twain
LIVE-IT-OUT
Encourage your group to start doing. Commit to a step, and live it out this week.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Finish group with prayer requests and praise reports.
